About Troop 308!

Keeping it Original By Being More Than Just a Tradition

Camp Rainey Mtn. #WK6YR2021

Troop 308 was founded in 1999 by Jim Eckler, a long time Scouter in the Delray Beach/Gulf Stream Council area. A Scouter through and through, Mr. Eckler has dedicated his life to living by and teaching Scouting values and skills. Although he has since passed, his influence still guides the way Troop 308 operates.

We believe very much in the boy-run, adult-guided example. Our leaders work tirelessly for the benefit of the boys.

We meet Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 at the Scout Hut at Mike Machek Scout Park located at 415 Lake Ida Road, Delray Beach. We are a very active troop with monthly campouts, monthly service projects, day trips, and lock-ins.

"I Was a Boy Scout"

Jim Eckler (1945-2016)

Jim Eckler, Founder of Troop 308, passed away on June 8, 2016, after being diagnosed the previous year with cancer.

The Scout Oath & Law was not something that he recited by rote, but rather was the way he lived. Those principles guided everything he did and every decision he made, both inside and outside of Scouting. These principles aren't always popular, especially among those who would like to take "short-cuts," and at times he was vilified for his convictions, but those convictions never wavered and he was a better person for it and made those around him better by holding them to a higher standard.

It is this standard that continues to guide the leadership and program of Troop 308. He was a true Boy Scout and his legacy will live on in the boys of Troop 308.
